Tamper with your meters, face sanctions – Ogun Govt warns petrol stations

Ogun State government has warned petrol stations across the state against engaging in unethical practices of adjusting fuel meters.

The government warned that such actions would attract heavy sanctions.

Commissioner for Transportation, Olugbenga Dairo, gave the warning during a meeting with members of the state’s monitoring committee in Abeokuta on Monday.

Dairo stressed that the present administration would not condone any sharp practices that could shortchange the value of fuel purchased by motorists and other residents of the state.

The commissioner stated that the monitoring team was set up to address inadequacies in transport fares and fuel, as well as to stop sharp practices by marketers, such as tampering with meters, to prevent an additional burden on people who are already affected by the hike in fuel price.

He stressed that failure of any union to comply with agreed resolutions would be seen as an anti-government posture, tasking them to ensure that their members do not arbitrarily increase transport fares.

Meanwhile he assured the people of government’s commitment towards alleviating their plight during the economic downturn.
