Supreme Court Ruling: We have hope – Kanu’s Counsel reveals next line of action

Kanu Agabi, lead counsel to the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, is optimistic that his client will get the desired justice.

DAILY POST earlier reported that the Supreme Court on Friday, declined the release of the embattled IPOB leader from detention.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim but written by Justice Garba Lawal, the apex court voided and set aside the decision of the Court of Appeal, which in October last year ordered Kanu’s release and quashed the terrorism charges against him.

Reacting, Kanu’s lead counsel who spoke with journalists shortly after the judgement, said there is hope for the secessionist.

According to the lawyer, the case would subsequently return to the high court.

“We had hoped that it would come our way but it has gone the other way. It simply means that we have to go back to the high court and get done with this quickly.

“We still have hope. We are not in despair. We lost a little time, and we have to go back. That is what it means”, he said.

He, however, expressed satisfaction in part of the judgement delivered at the apex court, particularly on the revocation of Kanu’s bail.

“But I’m very consoled with what the Supreme Court said.

“The court said Kanu ought not to have been treated the way he was treated. The court said his bail ought not to have been revoked and his house ought not to have been invaded. So we have hope”, he added.
