Nigeria’s sports minister, John Enoh, has scheduled a meeting with Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, to discuss the team’s poor start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles played out 1-1 draws with minnows Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their opening two games.
There were calls for Peseiro to be sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Enoh, however, said he would engage the Portuguese to sort out things.
“At some point next week, there is going to be an engagement with the coach,” Enoh told reporters in Abuja.
“All of that is trying to respond to the outcome of these matches, especially the World Cup qualifying matches.”
Enoh also warned against sacking the 63-year-old with the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations a few months away.
“As a minister, I am concerned that the national team is not living up to expectations,” he added.
“AFCON is so close that we need to be careful in what decisions we take.”
