Shelve planned protest, Nigerian government doing its best – Katsina group to NLC

The Coalition of Katsina Groups for National Unity and Integration has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to shelve its plans for a strike and protest.

It said this in a communique on Sunday by Comrade Hamza Umar Saulawa, Coordinator of the group.

He lauded the Federal Government’s efforts in tackling economic challenges facing Nigeria, acknowledging the disbursement of the N35,000 wage award, the inauguration of the National Minimum Wage committee, and the establishment of CNG Conversion Centres.

He said the government had shown a commitment to engage in dialogue and address concerns as shown by the recent engagement with state governors to tackle rising living costs and insecurity.

“Realistically speaking, no government on this earth can meet the demands of the NLC in 14 days,” the communique stated, urging the union to shelve the protests and continue dialogue.

The Coalition warned against potential harm to the nation’s fragile peace, drawing parallels to the #ENDSARS protests and their aftermath.

In a strong condemnation, the coalition expressed disapproval of groups and individuals exploiting the situation for political gain, emphasising the need to maintain fragile peace in the country. They called on sub-national governments, political office holders, the private sector, and philanthropists to contribute to alleviating the suffering of the masses.
