Shelter Afrique Residents Cry Out Over Flooding, Call On AKSG For Quick Intervention

Residents of the dangerous waterlogged area at Shelter Afrique by Godswill Akpabio Crescent, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, have consistently cried out over the abandoned road that has been taken over by flood, thereby rendering the road impassable by the residents and vehicular activities.

Residents, who are desperately in need of a motorable and passable road, therefore, called on the Akwa Ibom State Government for quick intervention.

According to some residents who spoke to this reporter, the project was awarded to HENSEK Engineering two years ago by the immediate past administration. Part of the road was done and a bit motorable and passable while the Godswill Akpabio Cresent and some other portions were abandoned by the indigenous construction company for more than two years now, for reasons best known to them, thereby leaving residents to suffer untold hardship.

“Due to the abandonment of this road and the drainages not properly linked to the underground drainage, heavy flood in the area became imminent. During raining season, most of the inhabitants in that axis and in the adjoining streets fled their houses for fear of being drowned by the heavy flood. It is not a pleasant situation to be threatened or captured by flood inside a hybrid zone like Shelter Afrique. Again, the said road passes through the residential house of the incumbent SSG and the prestigious school of our Senate President, hence the urgent need for intervention by the state government”, residents narrated.

They, in distress, therefore, called on Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to direct HENSEK Engineering Ltd., who is said be the original contractor for that project to get back to the site and complete the project he started this dry season in order to save the lives and properties of residents of the area.
