Senegalese President-Elect, Faye, borrows broom from APC [VIDEO]

The newly elected Senegal President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, was seen celebrating his victory with a broom on Wednesday.

The broom is synonymous with the leading political party in Nigeria, a country referred as a giant in West Africa.

The Senegalese President-Elect, who will assume office by April 2, was seen waving a broom, the way the members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, do in Nigeria during rallies, campaigns or victory parades.

Faye, a member of the banned African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (French: Patriotes africains du Sénégal pour le travail, l’éthique et la fraternité; PASTEF, won the presidential election as an opposition coalition’s populist.

Amadou Ba, a 62-year-old former finance minister and immediate past prime minister in Sall’s cabinet who ran as the ruling party coalition’s choice, conceded defeat to Faye on Monday and congratulated him.

DAILY POST reports that Senegalese law requires a candidate to win 50% or more of the vote to be declared president after the first round, failing which a second round between the top two candidates will decide the election.

The 44-year-old Faye was one of 19 candidates on the ballot in the contest to replace President Macky Sall who is term-limited.
