Senate confirms 12 to serve as members of CBN Monetary Policy Committee

The Senate on Thursday confirmed 12 persons to serve as members of the Central Bank of Nigeria Monetary Policy Committee.

The confirmation followed a report submitted to the Chamber by the Senate Committee Chairman on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru representing Lagos East Senatorial District.

Abiru said, all the nominees of President Bola Tinubu appeared before the Committee and were thoroughly screened, adding that they were not indicted by the DSS report, Police findings as well as the Code of Conduct Bureau report.

He added that they all have previous successful banking careers which made them fit into the Committee.

He said: “That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions on the confirmation of the nomination of the following 12 p;ersons as Members of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The confirmed members of the committee include;
1.Olayemi Cardoso – Chairman
2.Muhammad Sani Abdullahi – Member
3.Bala M. Bello – Member
4. Emem Usoro – Member
5. Philip Ikeazor – Member
6.Lamido Yuguda – Member
7. Jafiya Lydia Shehu – Member
8.Murtala Sabo Sagagi – Member
9. Aloysius Uche Ordu – Member
10.Aku Pauline Odinkemelu – Member
11.Mustapha Akinwumi – Member
12.Bandele A.G. Amoo – Member

After contributions to the report by some Senators, the Chamber dissolved into the Committee of the Whole, in which all the nominees were confirmed by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

In his remark, the Senate President commended the Chairman and members of the Committee for an expeditious report of the screening exercise which he said highlighted their competence.

He expressed the belief that the team would do their best while serving as members of the CBN Monetary Policy Committee for the good of the nation.
