Akwa Ibom State Police Command today dismantled the the headquarters of Ibom Youth Council, a group proscribed by Akwa Ibom State Government recently.
In a statement made by the Police PRO said the joint security team, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a successful raid on the group’s operational headquarters in Ikot Isighe, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
Members of the group fled upon arrival of the security operatives, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the subsequent demolition of their headquarters.
Recall that Akwa Ibom state government proscribe the group came in response to evidence of arms procurement, military training, attacks on security formations, and infringement on private property.
According to the police statement, signed by the police public relations officer ASP Timfon John, the Ibom Youth Council allegedly planned to launch a full-scale disruption of law and order in the closing days of 2024 and sustain the unrest into the new year.
The state further states that the security apparatus, with full backing from the state government, is determined to employ all legal means to maintain Akwa Ibom’s status as the most peaceful state in the country.
Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals engaging in acts that may disturb public peace.
Landlords are also warned to exercise caution when leasing properties, as any involvement in criminal activities may lead to demolition and potential legal repercussions.
