The chairman of the Gombe State Football Association, Yakubu Sarma, has revealed the secrets behind the impressive display of the Nigeria Premier Football League side Doma United.
Sarma said the players are motivated by the prompt payment of their entitlements.
The Savannah Tigers recorded an impressive nine-game unbeaten run in the NPFL this season.
Doma United currently boast the best defence in the league.
Akinade Onigbinde’s side are second on the NPFL table with 28 points.
“Professional league footballers earn their living playing football, and nothing motivates these players more than getting their financial entitlements as soon as they are due and giving them a proper welfare package,” he told Totorinews.
“The fact of the matter is that the players of Doma United have strong motivational factors working for them. Most of them want to prove a point. You know, as a footballer, if Kano Pillars or Gombe United refuse to sign you and then a club like Doma United signs you, you always want to prove how good you are.”
Doma United will take on Sunshine Stars on matchday 16 at the Ondo State Sports Complex on Thursday.
