Reverse appointment of Olola of Ola – Family appeals to Gov Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has been urged to reverse the appointment of Oba Johnson Ajiboye as the Olola of Ola town.

The appeal was made by the Olugbode family, the Ejitunde Ruling House in Ola town, Ejigbo Local Government Area of the state, in a letter written on their behalf by their lawyer, Fatimah Adesina.

DAILY POST recalls that on January 3, 2024, the state government had through a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, announced the appointment of Prince Johnson Ajiboye as the new Olola of Ola town.

The Olugbode family, however, opposed the state government and stated that it should not have gone ahead with the appointment because there was a subsisting court case over the stool.

Adesina said the suit, marked HEJ/2/2020, was filed by David Salako and three other members of the Olugbode family against Ajiboye and 20 others, including the Osun State Attorney General and the state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He said, “Already the court had on December 7, 2020 granted an order restraining all parties from taking any action on the subject matter pending the conclusion of the case.

“The appointment of Ajiboye was prejudicial in the face of the court order, which was communicated to Governor Adeleke via a letter dated June 5, 2023.

“It was surprising when the news got to our clients today, the 3rd day of January, 2024, about Your Excellency’s decision to approve the candidacy of Mr. Johnson Ajiboye as the purported Olola of Ola despite Your Excellency’s knowledge and or awareness of the pendency of the case under reference in court and the pendency of a subsisting order of interlocutory injunction restraining parties from making and/or accepting such approval.

“While we note on behalf of our clients that the purported approval of the candidacy of Mr. Johnson Ajiboye is in flagrant disobedience to a valid order of a court of competent jurisdiction, we do hope that Your Excellency would wait for the final outcome and decision of the court on the case and set aside the said purported approval with immediate effect until the final judgment of the court in this regard.”

The lawyer insisted that a disregard for the law was an invitation to anarchy which must be condemned outright and should not be encouraged by the state government.
