‘Respect governorship aspirants’ – Ondo APC chairman cautions party members

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has expressed displeasure over the actions of some elders within the party over their purported endorsement of one of the aspirants seeking the ticket of the party.

The chairman of the party, Ade Adetimehin, who warned against such a move, stressed that the move by the elders under the APC Aborigines was capable of causing disaffection among members of the party.

According to Adetimehin, the involvement of political groups and supporters in divisive actions and utterances ahead of the April 20 primaries might polarise the party.

Adetimehin frowned at the fact that some persons within the party have taken it upon themselves to act as “the aborigines of the APC” in the state chapter, labelling such behaviour as unnecessary and potentially detrimental to the party’s cohesion.

Some elders within the party had publicly endorsed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as their preferred candidate to secure the party’s ticket.

In a statement issued by Alex Kalejaye, the party’s publicity secretary, Adetimehin emphasised:

“The chapter would not condone acts that are aimed at making some members inferior to others on account of when they joined the party. The chapter is for all and will continue to encourage equal opportunities for all members. New members should entertain no fears in this regard.

“The party urged aspirants to be wary of desperate supporters who fan embers of disunity for personal gains. This is not healthy for the vibrant chapter of our dream.”

The APC Ondo chairman further appealed to political gladiators “to exhibit respect for the party’s governorship aspirants and other stakeholders to avoid unnecessary friction in the political space.”
