Removal of emirs: Distraction to prevent assessment of Gov. Yusuf administration – Kano group

An Arewa group has alleged that the dethronement of Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Yusuf was a plot to distract citizens from assessing the governor’s one year in office.

DAILY POST reports that the governor recently sparked outrage in parts of Kano State after signing the Emirate Council Repeal Bill into law.

Governor Yusuf sacked five emirs in the state and afterwards, reinstated Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was dethroned by the former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, in 2020.

Reacting to the controversy surrounding the reinstatement of Sanusi, the group, Arewa Truth and Justice Initiative alleged that the “law was all a plot by the governor to distract Kano people from his failure in office.”

According to the group: “We are saddened by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf’s treacherous attempt to undermine the traditional institutions in the state in a bid to cover his monumental failure in office as Governor for one year.

“Governor Yusuf started on the wrong foot by going against the very essence of governance, which is the people.

“With just three weeks into his administration, without looking at government records, he went ahead with the demolition of shops, businesses and people’s homes.

“The Governor neglected his primary duty of providing good governance to the people of Kano, instead choosing to witch-hunt perceived political enemies while the state slips into penury.”

The group urged Governor Yusuf to retrace his steps from controversies and start carrying out his duties of providing good governance to the people of the state.
