Push harder, bring home another laurel – SWAN tells Super Eagles

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has attributed the Super Eagles early qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, to a well-coordinated effort involving the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, the technical crew, and the players.

In a statement released on Friday, to its members, the association praised the male senior national team for their renewed commitment, which secured an early qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, slated for next year in Morocco.

Signed by its national secretary, Ikenna Okonkwo, the SWAN national President, Isaiah Benjamin, called on the NFF and other stakeholders to ensure early and effective preparations for the tournament, which will be held in Morocco.

He emphasized the need for the Super Eagles to aim for their fourth AFCON title, following their three previous victories and their second-place finish in the 2023 edition.

“With the team’s history of excellence, this is an opportunity to push harder and bring home another laurel,” he added.

Adding that, “SWAN welcomes the qualification of the Super Eagles to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations without breaking a sweat.

The qualifications, as further stated by him reflect the quality of the current squad and the level of organization by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Commenting on the appointment of Bukola Olopade as the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, NSC, the association expressed confidence that with the in-depth knowledge and experience of Olopade over the years in Nigeria’s Sports, the sector is about to excel more than ever before

Describing the appointment as a round peg in a round hole, SWAN, according to the President, is also optimistic that the combination of the new NSC DG and the Chairman of the Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, will take Nigerian Sports to greater heights.
