Protesters storm INEC, demand sanction of ADP Chair over forged death certificate

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has been urged to sanction the National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party, ADP Yagbagi Yusuf Sani.

In a protest letter addressed to the Chairman of INEC, Mahmud Yakubu, the Guardian of Democracy and Development Initiative, GoDDI, made the demand for the party Chair to be sanctioned without any further delay.

DAILY POST reports that the group had earlier called on the party hierarchy to suspend the National Chairman immediately.

This followed an earlier report where the House of Representatives candidate for Nasarawa Constituency, Kano State, in the 2023 general election, Musa Mohammad Ali, demanded the withdrawal of a letter which was forwarded to INEC, which he alleged was attached to a forged death certificate in his name.

According to him, Sani and the National Secretary of the party, Victor Fingesi had, before the general elections, sent the letter to INEC, notifying the Commission of his replacement, claiming he was dead.

The GoDDI staged a protest at the headquarters of INEC on Monday, asking the commission to exercise its powers as enshrined in the electoral act, to sanction him.

“It is a crime that contravenes both religious, secular and moral laws. It is roundly reprehensible and the perpetrators must not be associated with civilized people and INEC, having criminally misled it and made INEC effect a fraudulent and illegal replacement of candidate(s),” the group said in their petition submitted to INEC and read out before journalists by Comrade Igwe Ude-Umanta, its Director, Strategy, Research and documentation.

“The task before you an INEC is to dissociate yourself from perpetrators from the businesses of INEC, ensuring that they are prosecuted and withdrawing all engagements with their Political Party till it is sanitized.”

The ADP National Chairman, Sani, had earlier in a chat with DAILY POST, said, “Is [the allegation] against me as a person or as the Chairman of ADP? They are two different things.”

When he was told that he had been accused of forging the death certificate of some candidates and declaring them dead, he added, “I didn’t do that as a person. It was the party that did that.”

Speaking further, he said, “It’s false. What they’re saying it’s false.”
