‘Professional footballers are not paid every week’ – Troost-Ekong

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has said contrary to the belief of many Nigerians, professional footballers are not paid on a weekly basis.

Appearing on a recent episode of the ‘Zero Conditions’ podcast, the PAOK Salonica defender explained that although professional football payment is calculated weekly, the players don’t receive their payment every week.

He, however, clarified that the payment system varies from country to country, adding that he could only speak for himself.

The co-host, Tunde Young asked: “Do professional footballers get paid weekly like everybody in Nigeria believes?”

Troost-Ekong replied: “No. Some countries they calculate weekly but from what I know, I can only speak for myself, you won’t see anything on weekly basis. It’s not like you’re getting alert every week.”

William Troost-Ekong has played in the Premier League, Serie A, and currently plies his trade in the Greek league.
