Police suspend annual Zaar festival in Bauchi

Bauchi State Police Command has announced the suspension of the annual Zaar festival, initially scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024.

A statement released by the Spokesman of the Command, SP Ahmed Wakil on Thursday revealed that the decision was based on a restraining order issued by a High Court on October 30, 2024.

“Following the High Court’s directive, the Bauchi State Police Command informs the public that the 2024 Zaar Festival, set for November 2, has been suspended,” the command stated.

SP Wakil noted that past Zaar Festival events have been marred by conflicts, including assaults, property damage, and disturbances to public order.

“As such, festival organizers and participants are barred from holding any related processions in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro Local Government Areas or elsewhere until a final court decision is made,” he added.

SP Wakil further noted that Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Mohammed has announced measures to ensure safety and harmony within the community throughout the state.
