Police reinforce ban on motorcycles in Owerri

In a bid to enhance crime control within Owerri, the state capital, and its environment, the Imo State Police Command has reinforced the ban on the use of motorcycles within the capital city as it enjoined the general public to adhere to the directives.

Police Public Relations Officer ASP Henry Okoye, in a press statement, informed that the order takes immediate effect, warning that any violator of the directive will be arrested and their motorcycles impounded.

He stated that the measure is part of the ongoing efforts by the state government to enhance security and reduce crime within the metropolis.

ASP Okoye hinted that the ban is specifically aimed at curbing criminal activities which he said have been facilitated by the use of motorcycles.

In addition, the police spokesperson pointed out that the measure seeks to alleviate traffic congestion within the city, fostering a safer and more efficient environment for all road users.

Following the new development, the Imo State Police Command, through the statement, urged all residents and motorcyclists to comply with the law, warning that police operatives will continue to strictly enforce the ban, and violators will face appropriate legal action.

“Citizens are encouraged to support these efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone,” Okoye stated.
