Police promise neutrality in Taraba council elections

The Taraba State Police Command has vowed to remain neutral and professional during the local government elections slated for Saturday in the state.

Speaking with our reporter on Fridays in Jalingo, the command spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, said already, men and officers have already been deployed to polling units spread across the sixteen local government councils of the state.

The Public Relations Officer, PPRO, said policemen have also been deployed to collation centres across the local government headquarters.

He said the Commissioner of Police, on Thursday, had a briefing with all the Area Commandants, the Divisional Police Officers, and DPOs, on how to handle the election.

The commissioner, according to the PPRO ” called on the police to behave well. He also urged them to be civil and to respect human dignity”.

The Commissioner, Joseph Eribo, according to the PPRO, has also warned politicians to eschew acts capable of igniting dust before, during and after the election.

He warned politicians not to play politics of bitterness, saying the command under his watch cannot tolerate political thuggery.”
