Police parade six armoured cable vandals, two motorcycle thieves in Niger

No fewer than six suspected cable vandals are currently in the custody of the Niger State Police Command for stealing armoured cables and street lights in Minna metropolis.

They were arrested by officers of the command on routine patrol along the Keteren-Gwari area of Minna, the state capital.

The state command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said: “On October 27, 2024, at about 3 pm, police operatives attached to Kpakungu Division with vigilante members, while on routine patrol along the Keteren-Gwari area of Minna, intercepted the suspects.”

The suspects include Umar Mustapha, 40, Idris Abdullahi, 20, Mahmud Mohammed, 37, Musa Zakari, 42, Aliyu Musa, 60, and Salihu Musa, 45, all of Alagbado and Keteren-Gwari area, Minna.

The police spokesperson explained that the suspects were found to have conspired, vandalised and stolen street lights and armoured cables along Keteren-Gwari Road, Minna.

He revealed that during interrogation, they confessed to the crime and some of the cables were recovered from them.

Abiodun also disclosed the arrest of two suspected motorcycle thieves, Mohammed Hassan, 22, and Isah Mohammed, 20, both from the Kpakungu area of Minna.

The suspects were intercepted and arrested at the Obasanjo complex area of Minna in the early hours of the day with a red Hajoue cargo motorcycle on October 22, 2024, ” he stated.

SP Abiodun further revealed: “During interrogation, they confessed that they stole the motorcycle from the Tunga area of Minna and that they were planning to sell it to their receiver in Mokwa. Investigation in progress.”
