Police foil bandit attack, rescue watchman, others in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has foiled an attempt by armed bandits to kidnap residents of Damba in the Gusau area of the State.

DAILY POST learnt that the victims were rescued alongside the security guard in the said area.

In a statement issued by the spokesman, ASP Yazid Abubakar, the bandits went to the house of one Kabiru Umar Faruk of Sabon Garin, Damba, in an attempt to kidnap him.

Yazid further stated that the bandits succeeded in kidnapping the watchman of the house of one Malam Hassan Abdullahi.

“They were, however, pursued by the police as a result of which they abandoned their abductee watchman and ran away for their dear lives,” the statement noted.

“On 29th December 2023 at about 0130hrs, a group of armed men, suspected to be abductors armed with dangerous weapons, invaded the house of Alhaji Kabiru Umar Faruku, a staff of Zamfara College of Art and Science (ZACAS) Gusau located at Sabon Garin Damba, attacked and abducted his watchman, Malam Hassan Abdullahi aged 52 yrs.

“On receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer of Damba Division mobilized a team of detectives for a search-and-rescue operation where they intercepted the abductors at the outskirts of Sabon Garin Damba.

“On sighting the police, the hoodlums fired the victim in his right hand and took to their heels with possible gunshots.”

The statement further narrated that the victim was rescued and taken to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital and was responding to treatment.

ASP Abubakar maintained that the State’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, has commended the effort and timely report from the good people of Sabon Garin Damba that assisted in the rescue of the victim.

The police commissioner reiterated that he would continue to take the war to bandits and other criminal elements in the State until normalcy was restored.
