The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the murder of 40-year-old Adeleke Adeyinka, the All Progressives Congress councillorship candidate, for Abeokuta South Local Government.
DAILY POST had reported that the deceased, a former youth leader of Abeokuta South Local Government, was aspiring for the post of councilor of Ward 15 in the forthcoming November 16 local government elections.
Confirming the incident in a statement made available to DAILY POST, the police PRO, Omolola Odutola, said the perpetrators of the crime who came in an unregistered Toyota Corolla sport car fled the scene to unknown location.
She noted that his corpse had been taken away for burial without examination or autopsy.
Odutola said: ” A shooting incident and murder occurred around 12:30 pm. The assailants opened fire, killing 40-year-old Adeyinka Adeleke who was left dead at the scene before the perpetrators fled to an unknown location.
“A concerned citizen reported that unknown individuals, believed to be cultists arrived in a Toyota Corolla sport car, armed with a pump action shotgun and a pistol.
“Another individual, Adesanya Adeyinka, requested the body for burial without seeking a doctor’s examination or autopsy.”
Odutola stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects as investigation had commenced.
Adeyinka was said to be a transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta during his lifetime.
