Police confirm death of soldier in clash with officer at Agyaragu market in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the death of a soldier following a violent altercation with a special constabulary officer at Agyaragu market in Lafia Local Government Area on Sunday.

The incident reportedly began as a dispute between the two men, resulting in both sustaining injuries.

According to DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, the soldier, who was home on leave from his posting in Borno State, allegedly stabbed the constabulary officer with a knife.

In response, the constable managed to take control of the knife and stabbed the soldier. Both men were rushed to the hospital, where the soldier was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

Nansel added that following the soldier’s death, several of his relatives mobilized and attempted to attack the local police station, but officers on duty managed to repel the assault, but two individuals lost their lives in the ensuing confrontation, while two others were hospitalized with injuries.

DSP Nansel stated that calm has since been restored in Agyaragu after the Commissioner of Police, CP Shehu Umar Nadada, visited the scene to address the situation.

The police spokesperson in the state also revealed the police have launched a manhunt for unidentified individuals responsible for further attacks on the police station in the community.
