Police confirm arrest of quack doctor in Kano

A quack doctor, Chidera Ugwu, accused of administering injections and drugs on a pregnant teenager, leading to her death has been arrested by police operatives in Kano.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement signed by the police spokesman in the state, said one Nura Balarabe informed the police that 19-year-old Ukasha Muhammed, a resident of Langel village in Tofa Local Government Area, allegedly impregnated his sister, Amina, 19, and approached the fake doctor for help.

The statement explained that Ugwu, 24, and resident of Lanbum Banki in Tofa LGA, administered the injection to abort the pregnancy but it resulted in the death of Amina.

The suspects were arrested and they confessed to the crime.

An investigation by the police revealed the fake doctor had allegedly been administering injections to pregnant women with tragic consequences.

The police also arrested a notorious thug, Yusuf Haruna, accused of killing an Imam in Jakara quarters, Kano city.

The suspect, 18-year-old Yusuf Haruna, otherwise known as Lagwatsani, reportedly stabbed the Imam, Malam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu, with a sharp knife at his back while performing ablution.

The statement said the Imam had previously warned the suspect and his gang to stop smoking Indian hemp around the mosque premises.

The victim who sustained a deep injury from the attack was rushed to Murtala Muhammed Hospital where doctors confirmed him dead.

The police saved the suspect from being lynched by an angry mob and took him into custody.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Muhammed Usaini Gumel, urged the public to be patient as the police investigate the crime.
