Police arrests four persons for child trafficking in Kaduna

The Nigeria Police, Kaduna State Command, has arrested four people for child trafficking.

They are a 40-year-old Shehu Sani, Tskan Isiaku, 43, Hafsat Hussaini 24, all living in Ungwan Rimi Kaduna, and one Angela Onazu from Sabo, in Chikun local government area of the state for child trafficking.

The arrest is coming barely 24 hours after the Force Command announced the arrest of one fake soldier, identified as Ya’u Ja’afar who was involved in criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and extortion in the state.

In a statement issued in Kaduna on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Kaduna State Command ASP Mansur Hassan, disclosed that the operation resulted in the rescue of 2-year-old Zainab, adding that the apprehended syndicates confessed to their involvement in the heinous crime.

According to the statement, “The Kaduna State Police Command, under the astute leadership of CP Ali Audu Dabigi PSC, has achieved a significant breakthrough in combating child trafficking. On the 24th of March 2024 at about 1100 hrs, based on intelligence reports, police operatives successfully apprehended a notorious child trafficking syndicate operating within the state.”

It said that the modus operandi of the syndicate involved targeting underage children who are alone on the streets or running errands and advised parents and guardians to remain vigilant and mindful of the whereabouts of their children or wards.

He said the recent arrest highlights the sobering reality of the dangers faced by children when left unsupervised, even for a brief moment, stressing that by staying informed and actively involved in their children’s lives, parents and guardians can play a crucial role in safeguarding them from potential harm.

The Commissioner of Police, Ali Audu Dabigi, commended the diligent efforts of the police operatives involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to partnering with communities to ensure the safety and security of all residents, particularly the most vulnerable members of society.

He added that together, through increased vigilance and cooperation, the people could build a safer environment for our children to thrive.
