Police in Jigawa State have arrested three suspects for allegedly kidnapping a 63-year-old businessman, Alhaji Shehu Kwaimawa.
Spokesman of the Command DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday.
DAILY POST reported that gunmen in numbers invaded Kwaimawa village in Dutse local government area and kidnapped Shehu after robbing him in his residence.
The victim was later released after the payment of an undisclosed amount as ransom to secure his freedom.
Shiisu said following intensified efforts to rescue the victim and arrest the culprits three suspects were arrested in connection with the crime.
According to him, “Following a tip-off on the movement of some suspected persons, on 18/11/2023 a joint operation comprising Policemen from Dutse Division, Operatives from the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) Dutse, and members of Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) went to Rigija Fulani settlement in Hara Village, Dutse LGA”
“On arrival val at the village, twenty-nine cows, four sheep, a broken butt of riffle, one chain, and a Boxer Motorcycle with registration No. KMC 790 HJ Kano was recovered, strongly suspected of belonging to fleeing kidnappers. All were taken into custody for discreet investigation.”
Further investigation led to the arrest of one Samaila Adamu of Kwadiya village, Illiyasu A. Abdu, and Mamman Abdullahi all of Malamawa village who were identified by the kidnapped victim to be among those that abducted him.
Investigation is still ongoing at SCID Dutse, and the suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
