The Commissioner of Police in Gombe State, CP Hayatu Usman, announced today that police operatives arrested two individuals involved in separate cases of housebreaking and theft.
According to ASP Mahid Muazu Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer, the first incident was reported on January 18, 2024, by Babayo Bilal, a 27-year-old resident, at the Tumfure Police Divisional Office in Akko LGA.
The complaint detailed a burglary that occurred on the previous day at 7 pm, where Dickson Tela, a 39-year-old suspect, broke into a store located at Shango Jauro Tumfure quarters.
He continued, “Tela made away with valuable items, including 20 Major of rice valued at N21,000, 30 Major of maize valued at N18,000, and other items totaling ₦31,000.”
The PPRO said Tela had a prior record of breaking into the same compound a few months ago, where he stole a motorcycle valued at N360,000.
According to Abubakar, personnel attached to Tumfure Police Division arrested Tela.
In another case of housebreaking and theft, Zulaihatu Bello of Bolari quarters was apprehended for breaking into the house of Emmanuel Elly Usman in Tumfure quarters.
Further investigations revealed that Zulaihatu had a previous offense on November 22, 2023, where she broke into the house of Zulaihatu Garba Sale, stealing a television and N800.
Bello, having been previously charged to court for the initial offense, now faces additional charges for housebreaking and theft.
ASP Mahid Muazu Abubakar commended the diligent efforts of the Gombe State Police Command personnel in swiftly addressing these criminal incidents.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid ongoing efforts in maintaining public safety.
Both suspects are set to face charges in court.
