Police arrest real estate company staff for faking own kidnap

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested Blessing Ogunu, a staff member of Bliss Legacy Limited, a real estate company based in Benin City, for alleged self-abduction.

DAILY POST reports that the Public Relations Officer of the command, Chidi Nwabuzor, disclosed this to newsmen in Benin City. He also disclosed that two other suspects, Esther Anthony and Ukpebor Joel, were arrested along with her for conspiracy.

According to the police spokesman, Blessing Ogunu allegedly faked her own abduction and demanded a N4.8 million ransom for her release.

Nwabuzor said the suspects were arrested by operatives of the anti-kidnapping and crime unit using technical intelligence.

According to him, the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit received a complaint from one Samuel Prince Omomuzo of No. 102 Ihama Road, GRA, Benin City, who reported that one Blessing Ogunu, a staff of Bliss Legacy Limited, Benin City, was kidnapped in Benin and the kidnappers demanded a N4.8 million ransom.

Nwabuzor added that during interrogation, the supposed Blessing Ogunu confessed that she masterminded her own abduction because her company refused to allocate land to a customer whom they had received money from.

The police spokesman said the suspects will soon be charged in court.
