Police arrest leader of Maphite cult group in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested one Eyefia Godbless, a self- confessed leader of Maphite Confraternity in the state, while planning to avenge the killing of one of his cult members in Benin City.

DAILY POST reports that the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Benin City said Eyefia Godbless, 30, was arrested alongside

two members of the cult group.

Nwabuzor gave the names of the other two arrested members as Imuetiyan Ewemade, 30, and Emeka Okpja, 22.

He said the trio were arrested by the command’s crack team while acting on credible intelligence for alleged involvement in cult related activities in the state.

The command’s spokesperson said the suspects were sighted at Ubiaza community, off Sapele Road, Benin City while they were having a clandestine meeting to avenge the killing of one of their members identified as Kokori.

Nwabuzor, said the suspects alleged that the late Kokori was killed by a rival secret cult called Aye in June, 2024.

According to him, the suspects made statements and confessed to being members of Maphite Secret Cult.

Chidi added that they have also confessed being involved in all the secret cult fights and killings in the state and that they would.

He said they will soon be charged in court.
