Police arrest five suspected kidnappers in Delta community

The Crack Squad, attached to Area Command in Ughelli, Delta State, has arrested five suspected kidnappers in a brothel and criminal hideout in Ewu Community. The suspects were arrested on September 12, 2024, at about 1:30 am.

The police also recovered from the suspects one single barrel gun, three locally made cut-to-size guns, a cash sum of four hundred and fifty thousand naira (N450,000), one Moniepoint POS machine, one OPAY POS machine, and wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

The arrested suspects include Dominic Uweru, alias Ovwolo, 48; Isaac Oghenerukevwe, alias Plug, 34; Oviri Godstime, 25; Junior Sunday; and Efedeki Adjovo.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the report in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Warri.

He said: “They confessed to various armed robbery and kidnapping operations in Ughelli and its environs, including the kidnapping of a 70-year-old woman (name withheld) who they kidnapped on 08/09/2024 and collected a ransom of seven million, nine hundred thousand naira (N7,900,000) on 10/9/2024 before her release.”

According to Edafe, “the suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.”
