Operatives of Edo State Police Command have arrested four persons for alleged stealing of a Toyota Highlander at gunpoint.
Commissioner of Police Nemi Edwin-Iwo, who made this known to newsmen on Friday in Benin City, said the suspects, who operated with a motorcycle, allegedly snatched the vehicle from the owner.
Edwin-Iwo said three of the suspects, Ifeanyi Okpara, 26, Dennis Okosun, 25, and Edwin Iruogbe, 27, snatched the SUV vehicle with registration number RBC 66 AQ, at Ekpoma, Edo State.
He said the fourth suspect, Shehu Ismail, 25, bought the vehicle from the car snatchers for N1.5 million.
According to him, the owner of the vehicle, Iwologbe Rapheal, of Judges Quarters, Ekpoma, reported the car theft to police on August 23, 2024, at about 8:30 pm.
“On the strength of this complaint, operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, through painstaking tech-driven investigation, recovered the snatched vehicle and arrested all the suspects involved,” he said.
Other items recovered from the suspects included a locally made pistol with two live cartridges.
He said all the suspects have confessed to the crime and will soon be charged in court.
