The Katsina State Police Command said it brought hundreds of alleged perpetrators to justice and rescued numerous victims in 2023.
At a press conference on Tuesday, the command disclosed that its operations throughout the year led to the arrest of 369 suspected rapists, 258 armed robbers, and 64 kidnappers.
Additionally, the efforts of its operatives led to the safe rescue of 171 individuals who had been abducted.
Katsina State’s Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar Musa, acknowledged the “challenging” nature of the year for the police command but emphasised its unwavering dedication to tackling various forms of crime and criminality across the state.
He revealed that a total of 1,627 suspects were apprehended in connection with 938 reported major cases. Of these, 395 cases have been taken to court and are currently undergoing prosecution in competent courts across the state. Furthermore, a total of 495 suspects were arrested for a variety of other offences.
The command also reported the successful retrieval of numerous items, which include 12 AK-47 rifles, over 1,500 rounds of live ammunition, over 700 stolen animals, 12 stolen motor vehicles and motorcycles, and 17 stolen phones.
Items also seized by the command within the period under review include 568 sachets of D5 tablets, 23 packets of Exol-5 tablets, 411 packets of Rebozel tablets, five packs of Diezole tablets, and a significant quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
