Police arraign 31-year-old man over alleged assault, threat of violence

The police arraigned a 31-year-old man, Ibrahim Hammed, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday over alleged assault and threatening violence.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of assault and threatening violence.

The prosecutor, Insp. Adewale Oriyomi, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 6 at about 11:00 a.m in Ikun-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant assaulted one Adamu Salihu and caused him harm.

Oriyomi also alleged that the defendant threatened violence against the complainant.

He explained that the defendant and the complainant, who were neighbors, had an argument which resulted in a fight.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 186 and 69 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor requested an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

The defendant’s counsel, Mrs Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, assuring that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olarewaju Owoleso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He then adjourned the case until April 9 for hearing.
