PDP sweeps Zamfara LG poll, wins all chairmanship seats

The Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission, ZASIEC, has released the result of the election in the remaining two local government areas – Kaura Namoda and Birinin Magaji.

In Kaura Namoda LGA, a former Commissioner of Information, Mannie Mua’zu Haidara of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ran away with victory, scoring over 71,000 votes.

This was announced by the Returning Officer, Associate Professor Yusuf Kaura, who said the election was free, fair and accepted by the political parties that contested the election in the 11 wards of the local government.

DAILY POST reports that the All Progressive Congress, APC, that boycotted the election scored 813 votes.

In Birinin Magaji LGA, the PDP also won with over 57,000 of the total votes. Again, the APC, which did not participate in the election, scored 815 votes.

The Returning Officer in Brinin Magaji, Idris Gusau said 742 votes were invalid.

The Chairman of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission, ZASIEC, Bala Aliyu Gusau declared the PDP winner.

He said that the PDP complied with the requirements of the law and scored the highest votes, noting that the party won all the local governments in the state.

Gusau issued Certificates of Return to all the elected chairmen on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
