The Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State has announced the formation of a Shadow House of Assembly in the state, saying that it would be used to engender accountability in governance.
The Chairman of the party, Abraham Amah made the announcement during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia on Tuesday, naming the member representing Obingwa East State constituency, Solomon Akpulonu, PDP as the Speaker of the Shadow House of Assembly.
The PDP Chairman who said his party would write a letter to the Abia State House of Assembly in the next 48 notifying it of the formation of the Shadow House of Assembly, urging the Abia State House of Assembly to comply with the PDP-formed Shadow Assembly.
“In line with democratic principles, we do hope that as soon the House of Assembly receives our letter, they will comply accordingly immediately,” said Amah.
He also said the PDP or the opposition are not behind the current state of insecurity in the state.
The Abia PDP also set up a reconciliation committee co-chaired by Abraham Amah and Peter Aguomba to reconcile all aggrieved party members and possibly bring back those who left in anger to other political parties after the 2023 polls.
According to him, the umbrella party is repositioning to reclaim Abia State in 2027.
“We are taking all these steps to return this political party to Government by 2027”.
The PDP Chairman commended the stakeholders and all members of the party in the State for keeping faith and urged them to sustain the unity.
