The Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has elected new executive committee members across the 16 local government councils and two special development areas of the state.
The newly elected executive would hold the reins of leadership of the party at the local government level for the next four years.
During the congress held on Tuesday, across the councils, the party elected 18 executive members along with one national delegate across the state’s local government councils.
The congress, monitored by DAILY POST, was hitch-free and devoid of rancour.
Some of the delegates who spoke with DAILY POST said the essence of the exercise was to ensure the emergence of credible executives that would pilot the affairs of the party in the local government councils.
Elated by the outcome of the exercise, the leadership of the party, through its spokesperson, Andeta’rang Irammae, urged the newly elected party officers to be ready to work assiduously to steady the party on the path of successive electoral conquests in the state.
Describing the peaceful exercise as a significant milestone in the politics of the Sardauna Local Government Council and the state at large, the chairman of Sardauna, Mohammed Umar, noted that the process of the congress that led to their emergence was one of the most peaceful in the state.
“The peaceful conduct of the congress was a testament to the commitment of the party members to uphold democratic values and principles,” he said.
Reiterating the importance of unity and collaboration among the new executive members, he urged them to deliver on the trust bestowed upon them by the party and the community.
He also reminded them that their sole primary responsibility is to serve the people’s interests, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.
The council chairman further encouraged them to engage with ward executives regularly and work towards achieving the party’s goals, as well as bringing new members into the party.
