Owen Omogiafo leads LBS Alumni Forum as AI takes centre stage

Dr. Owen Omogiafo, President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, has assumed her role as President of the Lagos Business School (LBS) Alumni Association, following a ceremonial inauguration during the Alumni Dinner held on Saturday November 16.

The event marked the culmination of the association’s annual Homecoming Weekend, which kicked off last Friday with a thought-provoking conference themed “Navigating Disruptions: Harnessing AI for Business and Economic Success.”

The gathering brought together thought leaders, industry experts, and alumni to delve into the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping business strategies and economic growth.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Omogiafo (OON) highlighted the foresight and relevance of the Lagos Business School in addressing contemporary global challenges.

“Lagos Business School is at the forefront of looking at topical issues and developing competencies that businesses and governments alike can use to lead and thrive. When this theme was presented, it struck me as both timely and necessary,” she said.

“Just weeks ago, I was in Saudi Arabia for the Future Investment Initiative, where AI dominated discussions, with even Elon Musk weighing in. I felt proud of my country and my school for being so forward-thinking in addressing this critical topic.”

Dr. Omogiafo emphasized the need for Nigeria to prepare for the AI revolution, ensuring that the nation has a seat at the global table of innovation.

“As you can see from the conversations here, this is a pivotal moment. We must position ourselves to influence and not merely follow what’s happening around the world,” she remarked.

The Alumni Dinner celebrated Omogiafo’s emergence, earlier in the year, as a unifying figure for the LBS alumni community. Her leadership is expected to further the association’s mission of fostering impactful dialogue, driving innovation, and strengthening professional networks.

This year’s Homecoming Weekend not only underscored LBS’s commitment to addressing global disruptions but also celebrated the collective strength of its alumni in shaping the future of business and society.
