Osun 2024 Budget: Prioritise citizen’s welfare, fiscal prudence — APM

The Osun State Chapter of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM has called on the state government to prioritise the welfare of its citizens and also ensure fiscal prudence in its financial management.

The state’s party chairman, Wale Adebayo, who made this known in a statement issued on Thursday in Osogbo, said the 2023 budget performance report revealed concerns about the overall financial management and resource allocation in the state.

Adebayo said some amount in dispute was the money spent on personal expenses for the governor’s office.

He said such colossal sums of money should have been used for addressing pressing issues such as poverty alleviation, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.

“The breakdown of expenses, particularly the N2 billion spent on refreshment/meals and welfare packages for officials, raises serious questions about accountability and transparency of the government.

“It is unjustifiable to spend such massive amounts on non-essential items while the people in the state continue to suffer from economic hardship and lack of basic amenities.”

According to him, the budget performance report raises concerns about the overall financial management and resource allocation in the state.

“It is imperative the government explains the rationale behind these excessive expenditures and justifies the value derived from such significant investments.
