Orie Ugba traders chased out of market for flauting election rules in Abia

Traders at Umuahia’s major market, Orie Ugba were on Saturday morning, chased away from the market by a combined enforcement team.

The traders, some of who came from different parts of the state, disobeyed the Abia State government’s directive restricting the movement of humans and vehicles during election hours.

When DAILY POST visited the market at 10:30 am, the enforcement team made of market leaders and community leaders were seen ordering those who opened their shops to close them.

Other traders who displayed their wares on the ground were also seen fleeing from the market to avoid being arrested or fined.

One of the traders who identified himself as Uche said the disappointment of the 2023 Presidential election result discouraged him from participating in another election in the country.

Also, at Okigwe road and Uzuakoli road by over rail Umuahia, some youths were seen playing football in disrespect to the Abia State government’s directive.

The local elections were relatively peaceful in various areas of the state, even though there were complaints of late arrival of materials and allegations of missing result sheets in some polling units in Ohafia and Ukwa West LGA.

Meanwhile, Governor Alex Otti cast his vote at Polling Unit number 017, at Ahiafor Umuehim Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South LGA at 12:19 pm.
