Organized labour, Bayelsa State reach truce over disputes in N80, 000 minimum wage

The organized labour in Bayelsa State and the state government have finally reached a truce in the dispute that followed the N80, 000 minimum wage adopted by the government for the same workers.

After several hours of meeting, it was agreed that the computation of the consequential adjustment of the N80, 000 minimum wage by the committee set up by government and organized labour was flawed.

However at the end of the meeting of the organized labour with the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress, TUC and Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, government was appreciated for the approval of N80, 000 new minimum wage.

A statement issued at the end of the meeting asked Bayelsa State workers to remain calm and resolute as a committee by Organized Labour and government is reviewing the template to come up with more acceptable figures.

The statement clarified that the organized labour leaders have agreed that the proposed payment for November 2024 salary should go on and the differentials on workers salaries will be effected in December, 2024.

It was also agreed that the new template to be used from December 2024 will be duly signed by government and organized labour.

The organized labour swore to always defend and protect the interest of workers while the government also affirmed its commitment to making Bayelsa workers happy.

The statement was signed by Comrade Banabas Simon, Chairman, NLC Bayelsa, Comrade Laye Julius Chairman, TUC Bayelsa andComrade Mbeleokpo Andabai Chairman, JNC Bayelsa.
