The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended 27 individuals over alleged involvement in cult-related activities in Lafia, the state capital.
The arrests came in the wake of escalating concerns regarding the surge in cult-related violence in various parts of the state.
Mr. Bappa Abbas Muhammed, the Commandant of the NSCDC in Nasarawa, disclosed this information during a press briefing where the suspected cultists were paraded.
Muhammed further revealed that one person lost their life in the recent incidents while another individual sustained injuries and was currently undergoing medical treatment.
Muhammed while expressing his discontent with the prevalence of cult-related activities, stated that the NSCDC had implemented a new strategy to address the issue across the 13 local government areas of the state, with a particular focus on Lafia.
“The Command is committed to tackling cultism in the affected areas, and those arrested will be charged in court,” stated Muhammed.
