The appointment of Caretaker Committees for the newly created Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, in Ondo State has continued to generate controversy.
The latest community to kick against the development is Araromi Obu in the Southern Senatorial District of the state, which at the weekend protested against individuals appointed as leaders of the LCDA.
According to youths of the community, the appointment of Olarewaju Makinde and Giwa Rasheed as the chairman and vice chairman of the LCDA, respectively, will not be accepted.
They stressed that Makinde and Rasheed are not indigenes of the community.
The youth president of the community, Adesanoye Akinbinu, maintained that the nomination and appointment of the two officials failed to reflect the spirit of fairness to Araromi-Obu as the host community and the indigenes of the town.
Akinbinu, who frowned at the development, stated that the appointment of non-indigenes as pioneer chairman and vice chairman was a bad precedent for the LCDA.
“We received with great shock the announcement of Mr Olarewaju Makinde and Mr Giwa Rasheed as the chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of the said Ifesowapo Local Council Development Authority.
“We respectively express our outright displeasure and rejection of the two individuals because their nomination and appointment do not reflect the spirit of fairness to Araromi-Obu as the host community and the indigenes of the town.”
