The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, has said most of the road accidents across the state were caused by haphazard and illegal parking.
Chief Executive Officer of TRACE, Commander Olaseni Ogunyemi, stated this during an interview with the journalists at the agency’s headquarters in Abeokuta on Monday.
Ogunyemi, while warning vehicle owners who park haphazardly on roads to desist to ensure the free flow of vehicles on roads, added that the agency could no longer condone the careless attitude of such vehicle owners.
He said: “It is either an oncoming vehicle driven by a careless driver rammed into a vehicle parked on the road, leading to terrible accidents or such a vehicle blocking other road users, leading to traffic bottlenecks, causing loss of lives and property. Enough is enough.”
The TRACE boss noted that he had directed all divisional commanders in the agency to remove all vehicles that were parked illegally and obstructing the free flow of traffic.
DAILY POST reports that Ogun is one of the major states with the highest number of road crashes in Nigeria.
According to report, no fewer than 52 people died in 87 road crashes across the state between May and June this year.
