The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has said the autopsy of Monday Arijo has been concluded.
DAILY POST reported that Arijo had died last Friday at the Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta, after allegedly receiving 24 strokes of the cane and doing 162 frog jumps.
The SS2 student of Obada Grammar School, in Imeko Afon Local Government Area of the state, was punished by a teacher over his response to a trash can brought to his classroom.
Following this, the Ogun State Government shut down the school, arrested and suspended the teacher and the principal of the school, Mrs Tamrat Onaolapo, for allowing such corporal punishment against the established rules and regulations in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Abayomi Arigbabu, during a condolence visit to the family on Tuesday, said a post-mortem will be done on the deceased to determine the cause of his death.
Addressing newsmen on Friday at the state Police Headquarters Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Commissioner of Police said the autopsy has been done, and the corpse released to the family for burial.
Alamutu noted that a detailed examination to get all findings was still required before the public could be addressed.
He said: “We have actually gone far in the investigation, but the only update I will give you is that most of the things relayed in the social media, I find them frivolous, but I don’t want to be preemptive of the investigation.
“In the next few days, we will give you a full update on the outcome of our investigation so far. But I want to confirm to you that the autopsy has been concluded, and the corpse has been released to the family.”
