Ogun Govt decries private school owners’ non-compliance with education policy

The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has decried the non-compliance with government policy on education by some private school owners in the state.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu, while meeting with the heads of private schools’ associations on Friday, said the act is unacceptable.

Arigbabu stated that some private school owners violated government decisions, such as shifting of resumption date and running foreign curriculum.

Others include failure to comply with government academic calendar on boarding of learners on Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) platform and non-registration of Junior Secondary School 3 learners for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The commissioner also cited other infractions including learners without registration record on the portal, who took inter-school transfer or special placement as out of state learners, learners who were supposed to repeat classes getting transferred to other schools and later reapplying to return to upper classes.

He warned private school owners from giving learners double promotion, saying any learner involved would be returned and the culprit school sanctioned.

Arigbabu said, “Any school culpable of these cases will be locked up and stopped from being existing. We want things to go on according to the structure on ground.”

The commissioner explained that the essence of the new development was to ensure sustainable revitalised education system in the state, urging association leaders to spread the news to their members across the state.

In their separate responses, Vice-Chairman, League of Muslim Schools Proprietors (LEAMSP), Mr. Abdul-Jelili Animashaun and representative of Faith Heritage College, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Mrs Bamidele Adesina, commended the present administration on its developmental initiatives in the education sector, pledging their continuous adherence to government policies and regulations and to sensitise others on the necessity to comply with government policy on education.
