October 1 protest: Police deploy operatives, warn against violence in Adamawa

In preparation for the independence celebration and to ensure effective policing, especially over planned nationwide protests, the Adamawa State Police Command has interfaced with critical stakeholders.

The command said in a statement that the interface, which took place on Monday, was aimed at discouraging the planned protest by “faceless individuals and/or groups” due to the possibility of it resulting in violence.

“It is a well-known fact that chaos can lead to loss of lives and property. Therefore, any violent protest, especially by unidentified persons, is totally unacceptable,” the police said in the statement signed by Public Relations Officer Suleiman Nguroje.

The statement, stressing that the planned protest has the potential to go wrong and be hijacked by miscreants, urged all citizens to go about their lawful business and shun anything that will lead to harming themselves and others in the name of protest.

“The CP assured the faceless planned protesters that his doors are always open for a healthy discussion with the group and called on the people to appropriately follow the laid-down rules regarding every protest in Nigeria,” it said.

It added that the Police Command has drawn a security ring around the state to prevent miscreants from hijacking the protest.
