NSCDC nab bio-data enrollment staff in Jigawa for alleged extortion

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Kingsley Nneji, over the alleged collection of money before registering eligible civil servants in the ongoing bio-data capture of the state civil servants.

This was contained in a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, CSC Adamu Shehu and issued to DAILY POST.

He said the suspect was arrested on Wednesday by the Anti-Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command, following his involvement in the collection of money before registering eligible civil servants.

CSC Adamu said his arrest was prompted by a complaint lodged by the husband of the aggrieved civil servant, a retired military officer who reported to NSCDC that his wife, working with the Jigawa State Government, missed the enrollment exercise because of an ailment and was given the contact of Mr Kingsley, who did the enrollment at her place of work but solicited for N10,000 before she could be registered.

According to the complainant, he asked his wife to record every detail of her conversations with the suspect, which she obliged.

He said the complainant presented various pieces of evidence at the State Command, which included call records, serial numbers of the new notes given, bank account details of the suspect, which he forwarded via SMS to his wife, and a copy of the customised envelope used in putting the money.

CSC Adam said at the time of his arrest, the suspect had the said amount neatly placed in the customised envelope as stated. A short video of how he collected the money was made and presented. His handset equally testified to the calls received.

He confessed to the crime and will be charged in court.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the company carrying out the exercise has distanced his company from the actions of Mr. Kingsley, saying that his contract with the company had already expired on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

He also stated that the company made it mandatory for every staff involved in the bio-data enrollment exercise to sign an indemnity not to partake in any act of financial impropriety.

DAILY POST reported how some of the staff assigned to carry out the bio-data verification exercise by the Jigawa State Government were making unnecessary demands from civil servants before they were captured.
