The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has inaugurated a female strike force charged with protecting schools in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
The FCT NSCDC Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by Samuel Idoko, the Command’s spokesperson.
According to the statement, the initiative, aimed at enhancing the safety of educational institutions, followed a three-day training program to equip the personnel with the necessary skills and capabilities.
Odumosu pointed out the importance of the training in ensuring the safety of students and staff.
He stated the need for regular patrols, surveillance and security awareness programs to prevent threats and attacks on schools.
Odumosu also urged schools in the FCT to register with the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre, NSSRCC, for better coordination and quicker responses to security challenges.
“We must make schools safe havens once again for children,” he said.
Ahmed Audi, the General Commandant of NSCDC, stated the importance of the training in compliance with the directive to secure schools.
He expressed the need to end cases of abduction in schools and restore public confidence in the ability of NSCDC to safeguard educational institutions in the FCT.
“The training is imperative to ensure compliance with the CG’s directive on the mandate of securing schools for the safety of students and staff.
“Cases of abduction in schools must come to an end. That is the primary purpose of this training.
“We need to restore the confidence of the people in our ability to secure schools in the FCT,” Audi stated.
