NPFL fines Bayelsa United N3m for security breach

The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has fined Bayelsa United N3 million for security breach and failure to provide effective crowd control measures in their matchday 37 encounter against Shooting Stars on Sunday.

Bayelsa United fans encroached into the pitch in the second half of the encounter played at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, which forced the game to be suspended for few minutes.

Shooting Stars goalkeeper, Okiemute Odah, was also attacked by a supporter of the home team.

Bayelsa United were ordered to pay Odah a compensation fee of N250,000 and also identify and prosecute the culprit of the assault within 48 hours of receiving the notice of sanctions.

The NPFL further stated that failure by Bayelsa United to identify, prosecute and provide evidence of prosecuting the culprit may result in additional sanctions.

The league body also announced that the culprit, pending identification and prosecution, is banned from all NPFL match venues for a year.

Bayelsa United have 48 hours from the date of notice to appeal the sanctions.
