The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board has a big decision to make after the fan troubles that marred Sunday’s matchday 35 encounter between Rangers and Enyimba.
The top-of-the-table clash was keenly contested as both teams knew a win would boost their chances of winning the title.
Trouble started when the centre referee awarded a penalty to Rangers deep into stoppage time.
Enyimba players and officials protested the decision and walked off the pitch in anger.
Their fans later invaded the pitch to express their displeasure over the referee’s decision.
Play was suspended afterward with the scoreline still at 0-0.
Elsewhere, Remo Stars suffered a big setback in their title aspirations after they went down to a 3-2 defeat against Lobi Stars in Lafia.
Christian Izuchukwu gave the home team the lead in the sixth minute, while Chinedu Chukwu added the second seven minutes before the break.
The visitors reduced the lead through Sikiru Alimi two minutes before the break.
Stanley Oganbor restored Lobi Stars’ lead five minutes before regulation time.
Chukwu scored an own goal two minutes from time to ensure a nervy end to the game.
