The Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) Professor Maduebibisi Iwe has lamented the negative effects of the school not having a governing council.
The Vice Chancellor, who said the University has been running without a governing council, said that the situation has been having a negative effect on the activities of the University.
He stated this at Senator Pius Anyim auditorium, Umudike, during the event where the Global President of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Alumni, Dr Obasi Igwe Oscar was revalidated to represent Alumni in the governing council of the institution.
Professor Iwe regretted that appointments, promotions and other areas of developments have been affected because of the non-constitution of the governing council.
The Vice Chancellor lauded the contributions of Obasi-led MOUAU Alumni to the progress of the school, saying that the present council representatives would serve out their four years tenure, following the revalidation.
The revalidation of Dr Obasi Igwe Oscar was unanimously approved by graduates and academic staff of the institution, following a motion moved by Dr Ujah Promise and Professor Onwuchekwa Raphael Iheke.
In his response, Dr. Obasi Igwe Oscar, thanked the university for the confidence reposed in him to represent convocation in council, maintaining that he would not disappoint them.
Obasi, who appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe for academic leadership and support to the Alumni body, described the Alumni body as a major stakeholder in the university system, hence it is building a 1000-seater lecture theatre as part of their contribution to enhance teaching and learning.
